Adoption Success Story Bailey
Choosing to adopt a dog is about far more than falling in love with a photograph. At Small Dog Adoptions & Rehoming, we take the time to understand each adopting family’s household, lifestyle and existing pets so that the match is right for everyone involved. Our boutique adoption process is designed to give families the information, guidance and support they need to make a confident and informed decision.
Every adoption journey is different, and we believe families should never feel that they are navigating it alone. From understanding a dog’s individual personality and needs to preparing for the first meeting and introducing an existing pet, our team provides practical guidance throughout the process. This adoption success story of Bailey is a wonderful example of how careful preparation and the right guidance can help create a smooth transition for both dog and family. Our 100% cage-free, home-to-home model also allows adopting families to welcome a dog directly from a familiar home environment rather than a stressful kennel setting.
Adoption Success Story Bailey ~ Note from the New Family
We’ve adopted a few pups over the years, from different agencies, and this was most definitely the easiest, quickest and most professional organization we’ve used. We were carefully guided and given plenty of information every step of the way and there’s no doubt in my mind that the well being of the animals are first and foremost in the minds of everyone involved.
Amazing work guys, wish that everyone operated the way that you do.
Thank you!

Golden Retriever Cross Finds Her Perfect Gauteng Home
Bailey, a beautiful six-year-old Golden Retriever cross Border Collie, was looking for a very specific type of home. With her Golden Retriever warmth and affectionate nature combined with the energy and herding instincts of her Border Collie side, this wonderfully feisty girl loves being close to her people, enjoys cuddles on the couch and has an unmistakable love for swimming, car rides and energetic zoomies around the garden.
At the same time, Bailey’s strong herding instinct, energetic play style and poor recall meant that her new family needed to understand her personality and be prepared to manage her particular needs. She also requires a strict chicken-free diet and a secure property, making careful matching especially important.
Lloyd and his family proved to be a wonderful match. As experienced adopters, they understood the importance of taking the time to learn about Bailey before welcoming her into their home. Understanding Bailey’s Golden Retriever cross Border Collie personality and the individual traits that come with her breed mix was an important part of preparing for her transition. We provided detailed guidance throughout the process, including information on preparing for their first meeting and introducing Bailey to their resident Labrador, Shadow.

Following the meet-and-greet, Bailey officially began her new chapter with her family. She also received our 30-Day Transition Protocol, included as part of our adoption package, providing her new family with structured guidance during those important first weeks.
The early update from Lloyd has been especially wonderful to receive. Bailey has settled into her new home with remarkable ease and is already forming a beautiful relationship with Shadow. From morning zoomies around the garden to afternoon naps after playing together, the two dogs are gradually finding their own rhythm.
Bailey has also made herself completely at home, happily jumping onto the couches for cuddles and spending her days going in and out of the splash pool. Knowing that someone is always home with her has given us even greater confidence that this affectionate, energetic girl has found an environment where she can truly thrive.
Bailey Settling Into Her New Home
Baileyโs First Days
Lloyd has continued to keep us updated as Bailey settles into her new home, and his latest message captured something particularly special: the transition has been remarkably calm and natural.
Bailey and Shadow are still getting to know one another, but they are already playing together, running around the garden and comfortably sharing their new space. There have been no fights or rough incidents, and even their occasional low-level warnings around food and sleeping spaces have been calm and easily managed.
One of the sweetest updates has been seeing just how quickly Bailey has made herself at home. She has become a devoted cuddle companion, curling up beside her new family on the couches and happily falling asleep there. She has also discovered the splash pool and, according to Lloyd, is in and out of it every few minutes.
Bailey discovers her new favourite pastime โ the splash pool!
The family has thoughtfully given Bailey her own space and continues to manage meals and sleeping areas separately while she and Shadow establish their boundaries. This is exactly the kind of calm, informed approach we hope to see during the early stages of a new placement.
Lloyd also specifically mentioned how valuable the information pack and transition guidance have been. He also took the time to acknowledge Bailey’s original family, telling us that they โraised her extremely well.โ It was particularly meaningful to hear this from an experienced adopter, as Bailey’s calm, affectionate nature and ability to adapt so readily are clearly qualities that have been nurtured throughout her life. Our earlier advice about Baileyโs tendency to make a dash for an open gate has already proved important, with the family ensuring both dogs are safely behind their security gate before the main gate is opened.
And perhaps the most touching update of all came from their first week sleeping in the lounge to help both dogs feel comfortable. One morning, the family woke to find Bailey resting with her paws on Shannonโs hands, nose-to-nose with her new human.
Lloyd summed up the experience beautifully, saying he was โin a state of shockโ at how easily everyone was adapting and that he had never seen a rehoming transition happen quite like this.
He described Bailey as โone of the most lovable and easy to get along with girlsโ he has encountered, and told us that she is โevery doggy person’s dream.โ
This adoption success story of Bailey is a beautiful reminder that the right preparation, guidance and introduction can make an enormous difference when a dog begins life with a new family.

For us, this is what a successful rehoming looks like: not simply a dog arriving at a new address, but a carefully prepared family giving her the space, understanding and security she needs to settle naturally into her new life.
For us, an adoption is not simply about finding a home. It is about creating the right connection, preparing the family for the transition and giving both the dog and adopter the best possible foundation for a successful life together.
We are incredibly grateful to Lloyd and his family for choosing to adopt Bailey, for following the guidance provided throughout her adoption journey, and for taking the time to share these beautiful updates with us.
Bailey was originally listed for adoption on 5 August 2026, and was successfully placed in her loving new Gauteng home on 13 September 2026. You can read more about her initial placement criteria on the original profile link ~ Bailey’s Profile.
